Sherrill Almond

H. Sherrill Almond, Jr. 85, of Norwood, surrounded by his family, passed away peacefully Friday morning, February 24, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday February 26, 2017 at 2:00PM in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends 12:30 to 2:00PM prior to the service and burial will follow at Norview Gardens with Military Honors by Stanly County DAV and Masonic Graveside rites by Albemarle Lodge 703.

Sherrill was born November 6, 1931 in Stanly County to the late Harvey Sherrill Sr. and Trula Herlocker Almond. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he joined the U.S. Air Force. He later rejoined his father and brother and worked at the family business of Almond Hardware which was known for selling many Zenith television sets. Later, he became a contract agent for the NCDMV as a License Plate Agency. He attained his private pilot’s license in 1990 and was a past Master of Albemarle Lodge 703. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. Sherrill loved his family, especially his daughters and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ann Pickler Almond. One brother: James David Almond; and two sisters: Moretha Benton and Maggie Hill.

He is survived by his daughters, Trula Almond Mullis and husband, John and Eldora Almond Cornatzar, all of Norwood. Four grandchildren: Ian and Maria Mullis; and Leah and Eva Cornatzar. He also leaves his caregiver, Crystal Smith.
