Wiley Helms

Wiley Eugene Helms, 90, of Norwood passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Stony Hill United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors. 

Mr. Helms was born on June 7, 1932 in Mecklenburg County to the late Clyde and Ida Wilson Helms. He was a Korean War Veteran and retired from the United States Air Force and served in the United States Marines. After retirement from the military, Mr.  Helms worked as a heating and air technician with Bi-Lo Food Stores. He was a faithful Christian and long time member of Stony Hill United Methodist Church. He was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Carolyn Helms; sons, Stephen and Jeffery Helms; grandson,  Michael Mills; and brothers, Gerald, Alfred, Charles, and Johnny Helms.

He is survived by his daughters,  Janet Medlin of Norwood, and Mardi Kohlage (Henry) of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren,  Sherrie Schoen (John), Lisa Preslar, Michelle Helms, Brian Helms, and Kaila Lineberger (Billy); seven great-grandchildren, Shaian, Katlyn, Brandon, Carrie, Alayna, Emily, and Billy.
