Wayne Williams Obituary

Wayne Harold Williams, 79, of Norwood, passed away Tuesday morning, June 27, 2023 at home.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, June 30, 2023 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood.  Rev. Jerry Morton and Rev. Mark Little will officiate and Mr. Keith Byrd, musician.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Edwards Funeral Home.

Wayne was born February 21, 1944 in Anson County to the late Claude Lee and Eunice Honeycutt Williams.  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Wayne was a member of Aquadale Baptist Church and loved his church family.

Wayne was known for his hard work and dedication to the store fixtures industry.  Most of his working career he was employed with Stanly Fixtures and his last years of work were with Rusco Fixtures.  Wayne spent many hours working in Belk Department Stores installing the store fixtures, a job he enjoyed!  Before his days at Stanly Fixtures, he worked at Deluxe Grill where he met the love of life, Jahala.

Away from work, Wayne was involved with the early years of the South Stanly Sports Council, where many nights you could find him working in the concession stand.  He also volunteered with the Aquadale Volunteer Fire Department.  At home, you could find him in the yard or garden.  Friday nights were spent with his friends fellowshipping and playing a few hands of cards.  He was a big fan of the Carolina Tarheels.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Carlton and Bobby Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Jahala Burris Williams of the home; son, Timothy Van Williams of Norwood; daughter, Leta Maria Eury of Norwood; grandchildren, Robin Carpenter and Ashley Eury(Dustin Harwood); great-grandson, Cameron  Harwood;  brother, Larry James Williams (Carol) of Wadesboro and sister in law, Brenda Williams; nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharrie for their love and support, especially Deanna, Beth, Sherri, Jennifer, Jalil, Wendy and Eddie Smith of the equipment company. A great deal of gratitude is extended to Dr. Claud Grigg, his nurses, Jessica and Jackie from Levine Cancer in Charlotte.   Many thanks to family and friends for their generous show of support with cards, gifts and food.

Memorials may be made to:  Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharrie, 960 North First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001 and/or Aquadale Baptist Church, 32871 Church Street, Norwood, NC 28128.
