Thomas Staples

Thomas Gerald Staples, 90, of Oakboro, passed away early Thursday morning, August 24, 2023 at the NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury.

A Memorial service will be held at 2:00PM,  Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Red Cross Baptist Church in Oakboro.  Rev. Jesse Herring will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.

Mr. Staples was born November 24, 1932 in Washington, DC to the late John Orville and Dorothy Scherer Staples.  He proudly served his country in the U S Navy, having served in the Korean War.  He was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason of Henry Knox Field -John Blair Lodge No. 349 in Alexandria, VA.  He was also a member of the Oasis Shrine in Charlotte.  He was a member of Red Cross Baptist Church.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Wheaton Staples.

He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Staples of Mooresville and Robin Staples of Castro Valley, CA; five grandchildren, Katelyn(Conrad) Plyler, Lauren(Matthew) Mertes, Christie(Oakley) Ehle, Lindsay(Mason) Owens, Victoria(David) Owens and three great-grandchildren.
