Steve Austin

Stephen Wayne “Steve” Austin, 77, of Norwood, passed away early Friday afternoon, September 10, 2021 at Atrium Cabarrus.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery, 327 Concord Church Road, Wadesboro, NC 28170.  Dr. Mark L. Barden will officiate.  The family will receive friends after the service.  Mr. Austin will lie in state at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood, Saturday evening, September 11, 2021 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM and Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 9:00AM until 12:00PM.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon Austin.

Steve was born August 16, 1944 in Stanly County to the late Leroy and Florence Eudy Austin.  He was a 1962 graduate of Norwood High School.  Steve was a barber for 45 years with Jimmy’s Barber Shop in Norwood.  After retirement, Steve worked with Stanly County Schools as a bus driver for Norwood Elementary.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Norwood.  

Steve loved life and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.  Steve was well loved by his family and community.  

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Crump Austin of the home; son, Stephen Austin Jr. and wife, Amy of Richfield; daughter, Stephanie Austin Tyson and husband, Jamie of Albemarle; grandchildren,  Kayla Tyson Johnson and husband, Jimmy, Gage Tyson, Betsy Austin and Lillie Austin; great grandson, Brody Johnson; sisters, Claudine Herrin, Faye Crump and Kay Smith and husband, Eugene all of Norwood; and his beloved dog, Bear.
