Sidney Lee Greene passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023. He was 95 years old. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Doris, with whom he shared 71 wonderful years of marriage.
They were blessed with four children. The eldest son, Jeffrey Greene, was killed in an accident at 18 years of age. Their other three children--Gary Greene (Lila), Darlene Crump (Ronnie), and Susan Hayes (Kevin)--have produced five wonderful grandchildren: Travis (Kristen), Hillary (Justin), April (Evan), Brian (Rylee), and Mallory (Brett), who have given them nine great-grandchildren.
Sidney was placed into the foster care system as a child along with his brothers and sisters. He shined shoes on the street corner to help feed his abandoned family. He fought for his country in Korea, married his young sweetheart, started a successful business, and provided well for his family. But the true measure of his life was who he was as a man. Sid was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He lived his life with respect and honor. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an honest businessman. He spoke his mind when he needed to and kept quiet when it was best.
His legacy will live on in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be forever missed.
In addition to his son, he was preceded in death by his parents Archie Rufus Greene and Nettie Elizabeth Sanders; brothers and sisters Rufus Leslie Benton, George Luther Greene, Pearline Seago, and Evelyn Jackson.
Sidney was a longstanding member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead and a proud participant in the local VFW.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Sharon Cemetery with military honors. His grandson, Rev. Sidney Brian Hayes, will officiate and the family will receive friends after the services at First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead.
