Shirley Summerlin

Shirley Ann Hudson Summerlin, 68, of Norwood, passed away Saturday morning, February 13, 2021 at Atrium Stanly.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev. Mark Little will officiate and burial will follow in Silver Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM, prior to the service at Edwards Funeral Home.   The service will be live streamed on Edwards Funeral Home Facebook page at 2:00PM.  Friends are welcome to pay their respects at Edwards Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 from 1:00PM to 5:00PM and Wednesday morning from 9:00AM to 1:00PM.  Due to Covid 19, the family request masks and social distancing guidelines.

Shirley was born April 19, 1952 in Stanly County to the late Vervle Adams and Ruth Meggs Hudson.  She was a 1970 graduate of South Stanly High School, attended Wingate University until 1972 and graduated from Appalachian State University in 1974.  She retired from Aquadale Elementary School after teaching in the same Kindergarten class for 30 years.  She was a member of Silver Springs Baptist Church.  

Shirley processed an incredibly admirable devotion to God, family, and friends. She was a teacher to her core in every aspect of life. She taught us all by simply living her life in the manner she did. Time spent outside fishing, traveling, swimming, and feeling the warm sunshine were the best days. When inside, she loved to bake or make crafts to give to others. To know Shirley was to know love and joy. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Pat Burris.

She is survived by her husband, Spurgeon Max Summerlin of the home; sister, Cynthia Greene of Norwood; brother, Darrell Hudson of Albemarle; several nieces and nephews, including Ashley, Tammy, Sadye and Dalton and her special canine friend, Millie.
