Sherrill Wayne Austin, 91 of Norwood, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 17, 2025 at Atrium Stanly in Albemarle.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, December 19, 2025 at Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Dr. Kinney Wallace will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Sherrill was born August 5, 1934 in Stanly County to the late Floyd James and Patry Tucker Austin. He was an active member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, having served as a Deacon and Choir Director for 13 years. He proudly served his country in the US Navy. After retirement he worked for SCUSA for 25 years as a driver and did so until he was 88 years old.
Sherrill loved his family and his church family. He had a loving heart and it was felt by those who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Burris Austin and sisters, Doris Kennedy and Sylvia Whitley and brother, Ned Austin; step son, Darrell Mauldin.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Colson Mauldin of the home; sister, Patsy Barbee; step son, Ted Mauldin(Chris); six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great- great- grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
