Saundra Evette (Griffin) Smith, 69, of Stanfield passed away on March 30, 2026 in Monroe, North Carolina.
Saundra was born on February 18, 1957, in Albemarle, North Carolina. She grew up on her family’s property, a place that remained close to her heart throughout her life. She was blessed to raise her own children there as well, creating a legacy of love and family.
Saundra graduated from West Stanly High School and dedicated much of her career to The Hartford Insurance. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Stanfield, North Carolina. She married Jerry Smith on June 9, 1984, and together they raised two children, Matthew and Kayce.
Saundra was known for her quick wit and sense of humor. She often joked back and forth in a way that brought joy to those around her. In the last two years of her life, many people shared how deeply she impacted them. She carried a smile even on difficult days and continued to press forward. Her family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the medical personnel who cared for her and to those who visited and supported her during that time.
Saundra is survived by her husband, Jerry Smith; son and his wife, Matthew and Shannon Smith; daughter, Kayce Vaughan; granddaughter, Emma; bonus grandsons, Houston and Weston; and brother and his wife, Mike and Tammy Griffin.
Saundra was preceded in death by her mother, Ollie Mae Griffin; father, Robert Kermit Griffin; son’s former wife, Paige Smith; and future son-in-law, Chase Coleman.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Stanfield, North Carolina.
