Samuel Irvin DuBose Jr. “Sam”, 69; of Norwood, NC passed away Sunday evening, March 23, 2025, at his home.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 29th, at 10:00 A.M. at South Stanly Baptist Church in Norwood, NC. Rev. Jeffrey Pope will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Norview Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, March 28th, at Edwards Funeral Home.
There will be a celebration of life in Fernandina Beach, FL at a later date.
Sam was born August 18, 1955, in Jacksonville, FL, to the late Samuel Irvin Sr. and Barbara Ann Beeman DuBose.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his brother, Scott DuBose.
Sam was survived by his loving wife, Nancy Crump DuBose; Children: Nathan DuBose (Lindsey) of Marshville, NC, Kyle DuBose (Lili) of Lancaster, SC, Kurt DuBose (Jessica) of Supply, NC, Blake Walter (Adrienne) of Atlanta, GA, and Katie Huneycutt (Wil) of Albemarle, NC. In addition to his children, Sam was survived by his beautiful grandchildren: Grace, Ellie, Josie, Ava, Holden, Josh, Carson, Logan, Kamdyn, Karmyn, and Katelyn. Sam was also survived by his siblings: David DuBose (Sonia), Doug DuBose, Dorian Herbert (Lance), and Philip Victor (Mary) alongside numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Sam graduated in the Class of 1973 from Fernandina Beach High School, where he was a proud member of the first-ever district championship baseball team.
After graduating, Sam enlisted in the United States Army, where he completed boot camp and infantry training before attending Airborne Jump School at Fort Benning, GA. It was there that Sam earned his parachute badge, and he later went on to serve with the 509th Battalion stationed in Vicenza, Italy. After four years of dedicated service, Sam was honorably discharged and returned home to Fernandina Beach.
Upon his return, Sam joined the family business and became a skilled mechanic. His commitment and talent led him to earn his accreditation as a Certified Ford Master Technician, a testament to his hard work and dedication to his craft. In 1984, Sam relocated to North Carolina to build a new life, but he never forgot his roots and the people he loved in Fernandina Beach.
Sam was a proud member of the Interact Club during his youth and carried that sense of community with him throughout his life. He was a devout member of South Stanly Baptist Church and cherished his church family. Known affectionately as “PeePaw”, he adored his grandchildren more than anything and cherished every moment spent with them, whether they were boating on the lake or enjoying the beach together. His love for the outdoors was evident in the time he spent hunting and fishing with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Sam’s life was defined by his devotion to his family, his service to his country, and his passion for making memories with those he loved. He will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, family, and friends who were blessed to know him.
