Roy Lee Whitley, 89, of Oakboro, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Dr. Kinney Wallace will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Whitley was born on April 5, 1935 in Stanly County to the late Martin Benjamin and Emma Helms Whitley. He was a US Army Veteran and a faithful member at Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Roy loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Austin Whitley; and numerous brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his children: Tim Whitley (Debbie) of Albemarle and Greg Whitley (Tessa) of Oakboro; Seven grandchildren, Chancey Powe (Chris) , Chris Almond (Lindsey), Chase Morton (Shannon), Brittany Begert (Curt), Ben Whitley (Malorie), Brooke Thompson (Ted) and Cameron Whitley (Carli). Eleven great-grandchildren, Carson, Cassidy, Brennan, Max, Caroline, Kennedy, Jack, Owen, Cole, Amelia and Piper; and one sister: Judy Helms. The family would like to thank Trinity Place for their love and care over the years and two special nurses, Charlene and Whitney.
