Robert William Medley

Robert William Medley, 70, of North Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on December 12, 1954, in Montgomery County, NC, to the late Claude Medley and Jennie Mae Medley (Gould).

Robert liked to laugh and joke around with family and friends, always bringing a light-hearted spirit to those around him. While he spent time working as a machine operator at Hughes Supply in Thomasville, NC, it was his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and brother that truly defined him.

He enjoyed attending Olive Grove Church and held a personal appreciation for the spirit and fellowship it brought into his life, even if he wasn’t a faithful member. He also enjoyed watching westerns and Hercules movies, which brought him simple joy and often sparked fun conversations with family.

Robert was united in marriage to Lula Mclendon (Medley), and together they shared 43 years of love, commitment, and partnership. Their bond was a true testament to enduring love and mutual respect.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lula Medley, and a loving family who will carry his memory forward. He leaves behind his children: Baker H. Mclendon Jr., Robert Medley Jr., Devin Covington (Mclendon), and Cybill Drake (Hall).

Robert was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Baker Hudson Mclendon III, Keith Lauchon Jackson (affectionately known as "Hercules"), Christian Mclendon, Kaylah Allen, Daquan Mclendon, Fabian Workman, Yasmen Drake, Alicia Drake and Niya Workman. Each of them brought joy into his life, and he cherished the unique bond he shared with them.

He is also survived by his siblings: James Medley and his wife Joanne, Evangelist Josephine M. Wall (Medley) and her husband Kenneth Wall, and Deacon Paul E. Medley. He was preceded in death by his brother Claude Medley Jr. and sister-in-law Victoria.

Robert is also remembered fondly by his beloved aunt, Ruth Caple, and uncle, Ruben Gould. In addition to his immediate family, Robert had a host of nieces and nephews who loved and admired him dearly.

Robert will be remembered for his humor, warm smile, and the love he gave to his family. His presence will be missed, but his legacy lives on in each person who knew and loved him.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 19 2025 at 1:00 PM at Victory Temple Church, and burial will follow at Oliver Grove Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
