Robert Allen

Robert Lance Allen, 84, of Norwood, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at his home.

Funeral services will be held  at 2:00PM on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Norwood First United Methodist Church. Rev. Bruce Gwyn and Rev. Mark Barden will officiate and interment will follow at Norview Gardens. Friends are welcome to speak to the family briefly at the cemetery or anytime at the home.

Mr. Allen was born on January 18, 1939 to the late James E. and Loretta Walters Allen. He was co-owner of Roman Knit in Norwood and a US Army Veteran. He was a member at Norwood First United Methodist Church where he was an active member. 

Robert was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was active in the Norwood community where he served on the town board for two terms. He cared about his community and was a true town advocate.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother: J. W. Allen and sisters: Carolyn Coley and Bobbie Allen. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Vernell Gilbert Allen of the home; sons: Tony (Erin) Allen of Midland and Ricky Allen of Norwood; five grandchildren: Caleb Allen (Katrina) of Concord, Jamie Stokes (John) of Asheville,  Cary Allen of Albemarle, Anna Irvin of Gastonia, and Elizabeth Thacker (Matt) of Mint Hill; five great-grandchildren: Shea Allen, Cora Allen, Finley Stokes, Emery Stokes, and Clayton Thacker; and one sister: Betty Morton of Oakboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharries: 960 N First Street, Albemarle NC 28001.
