In Albemarle, North Carolina, on September 26, 2023, Richard Allan Hange passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 74 years. Richard was born in Georgia on April 27, 1949. He worked and retired from Southern California Gas Company in California and Morrow Mountain State Park in North Carolina.
A true lover of nature, Richard enjoyed walking in the woods and going down to the creek to listen to the water. He was always spotting treasures on the way: arrowheads, interesting flowers or anything else that caught his eye. He loved watching the wildlife that shared the woods and fields of their home, from the deer to the wild turkeys and many birds. Richard stood strongly for his beliefs and had a generous heart. His home was a welcome place for extended family to stay. He enjoyed going out to lunch with his wife Marielena, listening to music and dancing together. His passions included fishing, reading, flying kites, wood-carving and spending time with the many dogs he's had over the years. But most of all, he adored visiting with his daughter and her husband, Ingrid and Patrick, and his grandkids and great-grandkids. They were the sparkle in his eyes!
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marielena Hange; his daughter, Ingrid Hamel (Patrick); his four grandchildren: Lorraine (Keith), Alexandra (Bradley), Jeffrey and Madison; his three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Charlotte and Sophie; his brother Edward Hange as well as several family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Maye Hange and brothers Fred and Donald Hange.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 2O, 2023 at The Lodge at Morrow Mountain State Park at 2pm.
Morrow Mountain State Park, 49104 Morrow Mountain Road, Albemarle, NC 28001
