Richard Gordon “Duke” 

Richard Archie Gordon, most known as, “Duke” 72, of Albemarle, died Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Atrium-Stanly in Albemarle.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood.  Rev. Anthony Ledbetter will officiate with remarks by Mr. Les Young.

Mr. Gordon was born September 8, 1947 in Davidson County to the late James “Jim” and Lillian Richardson Gordon. He soon moved to Norwood where he attended the Lakeview Elementary School and Kingville High School in Albemarle.  

Duke was always a hard worker holding numerous jobs until he ultimately found his passion on the road where he became a long-haul truck driver.  He happily traveled the country hauling freight until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James(Sonny), Donald(Pee Wee) and Bobby George (Phil) Gordon.  

He is survived by five sons, Ritchie Gordon and Rusty Gordon of Norwood, Rocky Gordon(Yashiba) of Badin, Joe Smith(Renee) of Winston-Salem and Richard Bernard Smith of Thomasville; two daughters, Victoria Miller(Chris) of Norwood and Cathy Hines of Greensboro; sisters, Shirlene Collins of Norwood, Barbara Switzer(Hubert) of Charlotte and Vanessa Herring(James)  of Ocala, FL; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and lifelong friend, Les Young of Norwood.
