Ms. Octavis Colson, “AKA” Tate, attended the public schools of Stanly County.  She worked in the textile industry as a spinner at Collins and Aikman Norwood, NC and worked at The Howell Center, where she took care of special needs children and adults.  Tate was also a faithful member of Sanctuary Christian Outreach Ministry.  A minister of the gospel. She was a woman that loved God and loved people.  She enjoyed touching the lives of others through her generous giving.  She showed love through her cooking.  Not only for her church, family, and friends.  But for the communities near and far.  She had a heart of gold.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a son Michael Deangelo Colson of Albemarle, NC and Sam Miller whom she received as a son. A sister Gardenia Morant of Thomasville, NC.  Two brothers Leroy Colson of Concord, NC and Jimmie Lee Colson (Beverly) of Albemarle, NC. One Grandchild, Tiesha and one great grandchild.  A sister-in-law, Perry Colson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father and mother.  She was preceded in death by a late husband, Frankie Shankle. Three brothers. Lonnie Shankle, Grover Lee Colson, Jr. and Julius Colson.  Four sisters, Mae Frances Colson, Minnie Bell Smith, Dorothy Watkins, and Cora Mae Watkins.
