George Michael Holly, 77, of Oakboro, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024 with his loving wife of 52 years by his side.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Silver Springs Baptist Church, where he was a member. Rev. Mark Little will officiate and interment will follow at Oakboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, October 30, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.
Born on May 20, 1947 in Albemarle, NC to the late Ralph Sherman and Maggie McManus Holly. He graduated from Albemarle High School in 1965. He met his wife, Gaynelle, in 1970 when she came to his house in Albemarle as part of a blind date. The couple were married in 1972. Mike was a meat cutter by profession. Throughout his career, he owned Albemarle Meat Market in West Albemarle and The Country Cut in Oakboro. Many Stanly County natives worked with him in those locations or were faithful customers. He ended his working life by retiring from Michelin Aircraft Tire in 2009. He had a love for gardening and landscaping, decorating his yard with Christmas lights, and cooking for his family and friends.
Mike was a member of the Pee Dee Masonic Lodge where he was a past Master.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gaynelle Foreman Holly; sister: Ann Almond; daughter: Amanda Horton (Kent) of Norwood; and son: Kevin Holly of Colorado; two grandchildren: Riley Horton and Ashley Horton.
