Mickey Vernon Morgan,85, of Albemarle, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Porter Baptist Church. Rev. Flynn Richardson will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior in the church sanctuary. A private interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mickey was born on August 27, 1939 to the late Odell and Ruth Blalock Morgan. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, and retired from the Department of Corrections. He was a member of Porter Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir, and taught the adult men’s Sunday School class.
Mickey loved the outdoors, spending countless hours hunting, fishing, and enjoying the majesty of God’s creation. He enjoyed singing, and was a member of the Porter Quartet. Mickey also adored his granddaughters spending time with them every chance he got.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Jimmy Morgan, Jerry Morgan, and Connie Morgan.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Morton Morgan of the home, their son Joseph Vernon “Joe” Morgan (Lisa), grandchildren Kadie McPherson (Cody), and Kinley Moore (Will), two great grandchildren: McCoy McPherson, and Brooks Moore, and three brothers: Max Morgan, Paul Morgan, and Tim Morgan.
