Michael Byrd

Michael Ray Byrd, 74, of Mount Gilead, passed away Monday night, January 15, 2024.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Byrd Family Cemetery at Sharon Cemetery  in Mount Gilead.  Rev. Rupert Medford will officiate.  

Michael was born October 5, 1949 in Montgomery County to the late Harold and Rachel Strider Byrd.  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a correctional officer with the Department of Corrections in Troy for many years. He was last employed with NAPA in Rockingham.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Christy Verlen Byrd and his brother, Phillip Byrd and sister in law, Linda Byrd.                    .

He is survived by his brother, Steve Byrd of Mount Gilead and sister, Sue Byrd Brookshire(Matt) of Mount Gilead; two grandchildren, Brandon and Justin Ingram; many nieces and nephews.
