William Melvin Blalock 84 of Norwood died peacefully Monday Morning, March 23, 2020 surrounded by his family at Trinity Place.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Rev. David Hatley, Rev. Ron Dry and Rev. Clint Lewey will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. Melvin will lie in state Wednesday from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM and Thursday from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM where friends are welcome to pay their respects.
Melvin was born August 10, 1935 in Stanly County to the late Pines and Hattie Blalock. He was a 1953 graduate of Norwood High School and worked for many years with Young Manufacturing and Stanly Fixtures. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
In addition to being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather he enjoyed decades of coaching Little League and Dixie Youth boys baseball in Norwood and Aquadale.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Lois Lentz Blalock of the home. Two daughters, Cindy Blalock Almond of Albemarle and Gloria Blalock Freeman (Dennis) of Norwood. One son Rodney Blalock (Linda) of Locust. Six grandchildren, Amber Reynolds (Paul), Dustin Almond, Derrick Almond (Danielle) Jeremy Blalock, Katie Freeman and Savannah Blalock. Seven great-grandchildren, Nick, Nathan, Allyson, Daniel, Lane, Cohen and Ella. Also he is survived by his sister-in-law Linda Blalock and brother-in-law Toby Taylor and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Timothy Melvin Blalock and his infant daughter Wanda Renee Blalock, his son-in-law, Danny Almond, his brother, Oliver “Craig” Blalock and sisters, Hallie Mae Gibson and Hilda Taylor.

Due to an order issued by NC Governor Roy Cooper to limit crowd size the service may only be attended by family, funeral home staff and guest personally invited by the family.
