Mary Russell Ferguson, 95, of Norwood passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
Funeral services will be held Monday December 9, 2024 at 2:00pm at Aquadale Baptist Church. Pastors Jerry Morton and Dale Brooks will officiate. Family visitation will precede the service in the church fellowship hall. The grave side service will be held at the family cemetery at Clear Creek Baptist Church in Mint Hill.
Mary was born September 13, 1929 in Columbus County to the late Rev. W. J. and Fannie Huneycutt Russell. She was a member of Aquadale Baptist Church since 1972. Mary retired from Collins & Aikman and then continued to work with her husband, Merl Ferguson, running Ferguson Furniture in Albemarle until closing the store after 33 years.
Mary will be remembered for her warm and humorous personality. She loved traveling and enjoyed many bus tours and trips with family and friends throughout the United States and beyond. She enjoyed gardening, gathering pecans and sitting on her front porch stringing beans and shelling pecans. Mary enjoyed spreading joy through her cooking including her many specialties such as Mississippi mud and sweet potato casserole. But most of all she enjoyed reading her Bible and sharing the love of the Lord for all His children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merl Ferguson and brothers and sisters, Grover Russell, Nellie White, Cardell Russell, Bill Russell, Edith Stevens and Freeman Russell.
She is survived by her son, Merl McDonald Ferguson, Jr.and wife Bonnie of Bryson City, NC; granddaughter, Abby Silvius and husband, Mitchell; brother, Paul Russell and sister Rachel Lefler.
