Mary Sue Tilley Dunn, 95, of Mt. Gilead, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Hamer Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Rupert Medford and Rev. Alex Willoughby will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead.
Mrs. Dunn was born on February 7, 1927 in Stokes County to the late Posey Lester and Anna Smith Tilley. She retired from United Mills as a seamstress and was an active member at Hamer Creek Baptist Church. Mary was an excellent seamstress. After retirement, she continued sewing at home for friends and family and even sewed 3,000 dresses to be sent to Haiti for missions. She loved to cook, can, and work with her flowers. She loved her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandson.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Harold Dunn; sisters: Frances Lovin, Nora Lovin, and Virginia Silvestri; brother: Jerry Tilley; triplet siblings, Esther, Vester, and Lester Tilley; and step sisters: Radar Blakely, Gladys Woods, and Ruby Staples.
She is survived by her children: Harold Scott Dunn (Rebecca) of Mt. Gilead, Carolyn Thompson (Quinton) of Mt. Gilead, and Debbie Steagall (Joe) of Castle Hayne, NC; seven grandchildren: Todd Dunn (Sarah), Tricia Yow (Chad), Melissa McIntyre (Ronnie), Brent Thompson (Kristen), Robbie Nelson (Rebecca), Daniel Steagall (Sara), and Amber Steagall; nine great-grandchildren: Caitlyn Dunn, Brayden McRae, Sydney McRae, Melaina Yow, Lane Yow, Morgan Nelson, Monica Nelson, Hunter Nelson, and Dylan Nelson; one great-great-grandson: Maverick Nelson; and one sister, Barbara Sears.
The family would like to give a special thanks to First Health Hospice, especially Gail, Janice, and Susan, for their love and compassion.
