Margieree Helms Obituary

Margieree Elwood Helms, 91, passed away at her home with her family, Sunday afternoon, March 19th, 2023. She was born in Cabarrus County on Valentine's Day, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Minnie Hough Elwood. She married her friend and love, Roy Lee Helms, Sr. on January 21st, 1967. Roy preceded her in death in April, 2020 and also her stepson, Roy Lee Helms, Jr., in 2018.

Margie loved to love on people. She helped everybody she knew. She loved to sew, garden and cook for everyone.  Nothing made her happier than having her family and friends over to fix their favorite dishes. She enjoyed spending time with all of her grands at home and at all of their many activities.  Her hands were rarely still. If you knew her, you probably were the recipient of some good, country cooking or fresh garden goodies.

Margie graduated from Mt Pleasant High School and was employed by Cannon Mills and Bessie's Flower Shop.

Margie is survived by her daughter, Brenda Huneycutt (who resided with Margie) and stepson, Jody Helms (Sara).

Her 4 Grandkids include Emily McCallum (Nathan) and Tyler Huneycutt. Also included is Bryan Helms (Stacy) and Amanda Hranek (Joey). Margie also was great grandma to Avery McCallum, Autumn Rector, Mallory and Landon Helms, Cooper and Paityn Roark and Melina, Joey and Addy Hranek. A special thanks to Margie's former son in law, Tim Huneycutt, for all the help that he extended to Margie and Roy over the years.

Margie was preceded in death by sisters Emma Haynes, Mary Allman, Dessie Earley, Lela Scarboro and Irene Lowder. Brothers were Ebb Elwood, Floyd Elwood, Roy Elwood, Melvin Elwood, Clyde Elwood, Claude Elwood, Bill Elwood, Ira (Doc) Elwood and Wilson Hough.

Please join us in celebrating her life with visitation Thursday March 23rd from 6pm - 8pm at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood and service at 11 am on Friday at First Baptist Church of Oakboro, where Margie was a member for many years. Burial will be at Oakboro Cemetery.
