Larry Keith Scarborough, 77, of Mt. Gilead, passed away Monday, January 29, 2024 at First Health Care in Pinehurst.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Sharon Cemetery in Mt. Gilead. Rev. Ed Lindsey and Jason White will officiate and Military Honors and Masonic Rites will follow. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead, prior to the service.
Mr. Scarborough was born on October 1, 1946 in Mecklenburg County to the late Linwood Moore and Evelyn Reedy Scarborough. He graduated from Western Carolina University and was a United States Army Veteran. He worked as a Health inspector in Montgomery County, a Tax Assessor in Richmond County, and a purchasing agent for First Health in Troy. He was also a prior Town Commissioner in Mt Gilead and a member of the Lions Club. He was actively involved in Montgomery Soil and Conservation, as well as, Montgomery County Economic Development for many years. Larry was very involved in the town of Mt. Gilead as well as the County. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge where he served as the Grand Master in years past. Larry was an avid Carolina Tarheel fan and loved history and politics.
He is survived by his sisters, Tracie Whitley and Vickie Batten (Ed); nieces and nephews: Amber Taylor (Peter), Joshua Whitley, Kelly Gryder (Ty), and Jill White (Jason); great-nieces and nephews: Luke and Liam White, Madilyn Whitley, and Emerie and Graham Gryder.
