Larry Atkins

Larry Gene Atkins, 74, of Troy, ended his earthly journey on Sunday morning, May 2, 2021 at his home.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM,Tuesday May 4, 2021 at Long Hill Baptist Church in Troy.  Rev. Brad Williams with officiate.  Interment will follow at Long Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.  Due to Covid 19 restrictions, social distancing and masks are requested by the family.

Larry was born January 13, 1947 in Montgomery County to the late Tommie and Carrie Atkins. He is preceded in death by his precious wife of thirty years, Sadie, and survived by his loving wife, Gwen, of the home.  He is also survived by his daughter Tami Atkins Lee (Chris) of Hillsborough, grandsons, Benjamin Lee (13) and Samuel Lee (10).  He is survived by nine siblings: Clifton Atkins of Lexington (Wanda), Pauline Lanier of Lexington (Jerry), Roy Atkins of Troy, Christine Lanier of Denton, Joyce Greene of Troy (Lynn), Lois Overby of Troy, Frances Sanders of Troy (Jerry), Rosemary Freeman of Troy (Jimmy), Darlene Lucas of Mt. Gilead (Gerald), many wonderful nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends. 

Larry worked faithfully for thirty years at Jordan Lumber Company as a Crane Operator, having retired in 2013.  He loved his Lord and Saviour and was a member of Long Hill Baptist Church in Troy.  He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, bluegrass gospel music, building projects, and travel.  Larry was a friend to all who knew him and always looked to the needs of others.  More than anything, he loved being with his family and was always ready to enjoy a new adventure, as the Lord allowed.
