Juanita Conner Obituary

Juanita Dunning Conner, 90, of Cheraw, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, March, 13 2023 at Anson Memorial Park. Pastor Donna Holland will officiate.

Mrs. Conner was born on September 27, 1932 in Guilford County, NC to the late James Wiley Sr. and Fleta Sue May Dunning. She was a dry goods and clothing store owner and operator for many years and a member at Albemarle Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Juanita was born during the Great Depression. Her mother passed away when she was four years old,  and she was left to mother and care for her many siblings. It was at this time that she learned to budget and keep track of money. She was very business minded and had an entrepreneurial spirit.

To be such a small lady, she had a strong constitution. If she really wanted something done, she would find a way to make it happen. Her passion was to help spread the word of the Gospel to all the world and she religiously made generous donations to the church and charitable organizations. She was very giving, and wanted little for herself. She lived simply.

During the years that she ran the store, she enjoyed talking with all the customers who came into her store. When the business closed, she moved on to care for the elderly as a sitter. After she retired, she really enjoyed working in her yard and studying her Bible. Another of her hobbies was studying natural healing, herbal supplements, and home remedies. She was vegetarian and believed in the importance of having a good diet. She liked to offer remedies to everyone who was close to her as well. She loved getting to see and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She also had a special companion in her toy poodle, Annie.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lloyd Conner; siblings: J.W., Robert, Roy, and Martha Lou Dunning, Becky Burke, Mary Minor, Caroline Ratliff, and Harold Dunning.

She is survived by her children: Nancy Suhy (Robert) of Jonesborough, TN, Donna Holland (Glenn)  of Falmoth, Maine, and Karen Causey (Bud) of McFarlan, NC; step-daughter: Lynn Chewning (Ben); six grandchildren: Jason Suhy (Amanda), Keith Holland, Trina Schleif (Greg), Ivy Gardner (Josh), Iris Causey (William Perdue), and Keely Williams (TJ); step-grandchildren: Brandon Chewning (Brandy), Brooklin and Brisol Chewning;  and four great-grandchildren: Scarlett and Finn Gardner, and Jensen and Anderson Suhy, as well as several special nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Albemarle Seventh-day Adventist Church: 33310 Hobe Road Albemarle NC 28001.
