Joyce Murray

Joyce Hatley Murray, 69, of Oakboro passed away Friday evening, September 4, 2020 at Atrium Northeast.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 7, 2020 at Red Cross Baptist Church. Rev. Jesse Herring and Rev. Josh Fraley will officiate, and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Mrs. Murray will lie in state Monday morning at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood from 9:00AM until 12PM where friends are welcome to pay their respects.

Mrs. Murray was born September 30, 1950 in Stanly County to the late C.H. and Margie Little Hatley. She was a graduate of West Stanly High School and a member of Red Cross Baptist Church where she had served as a GA leader and choir member. She was the former owner and operator of Little Folks Day Care and Oakboro Video.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Isaac Murray, whom she married May 23, 1970; the first couple married in the new Red Cross Baptist Church Sanctuary. One son, Chris Murray (Leslie). One daughter Laura Hiott(Chris), Three grandchildren, Brianna Harris (Evan Alfred), Christopher Hiott Jr. and James Hiott. One brother, Roger Hatley (Ellen). Two sisters, Janice Hinson (Bill) and Dianne Coble (Ted) all of Oakboro.

She was preceded in death by a brother Wayne Harding Hatley.
