John Hamilton Vaughan, 87, of Mount Gilead passed away early Wednesday morning, July 29, 2026 at Spring Arbor of Albemarle.
John was born December 30, 1938 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Maurice Bruns and Mary Margaret Tracy Vaughan. He proudly served his country in the US Navy. He was a retiree of CSX Railroad. John was an active member of the Albemarle Church of Christ.
John was a faithful Christian and believed in giving to others. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and was a member of the Hornets Nest Antique Car Club. He also enjoyed playing golf.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson, Benny Vaughan, brothers, Maurice B. Vaughan, Jr. and Mickey Vaughan.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bonnie Smith Vaughan of the home; sons, Wesley Vaughan(Jolene) of China Grove; Scott Vaughan(Niki) of Oakboro and daughter, Shana Bare(Scott) of Creedmoor; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
