John Marrion Cullers

John Marion Cullers, 87, of Mt. Gilead, passed away October 16, 2023 at his home.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 20, 2023 at Little River United Methodist Church in Mt. Gilead. Rev. Casey Harris will officiate and interment will follow at church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead.

Mr. Cullers was born October 1, 1936, in Boone, NC, to the late Howard Alison and Sophia Lena Woodring Cullers. Mr. Cullers was a graduate of Appalachian High School and Appalachian State University. He was a retired educator from Montgomery County Schools and was a member of Little River Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Deborah East Cullers.

He is survived by his daughter Jody’s Cullers and grandson, Colt Cullers, of the home.  He also survived by his son John Jeffrey Cullers (Jocelyn) of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren: Jack Cullers (Elise), Justin Cullers (Kirstyn), Sara Agan (Nick), and Emily Jones; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Cullers leaves a legacy of his passion and appreciation for music. He was a professional musician who played steel guitar in multiple country music bands throughout his life.  A versatile musician, Mr. Cullers sang, emceed, and played acoustic guitar.
