Jo Ann Thompson McSwain, 77, of Norwood passed away, early Thursday morning at Atrium Main in Charlotte.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. David Hatley and Mr. Rick Stewart will officiate. A drive through visitation will be held from 2:00PM to 6:00PM, Friday afternoon February 26, 2021 at the McSwain home, 411 Allenton Street, Norwood.
Mrs. McSwain was born January 7, 1944 in Stanly County to the late Cecil Bennett and Laura Bell Spivey Thompson. Jo Ann was a homemaker who took great pride in taking care of and helping others. She was always giving back to her community. She enjoyed making cakes and casseroles for those in need. She was an active member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church where she served as President of the United Methodist Women. Jo Ann served on the Norwood City Fire Department Ladies Auxillary for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Nancy Miller and Dot Morton.
She is survived by her husband, James Vernon McSwain of the home; son, Jim McSwain and wife, Jennifer; daughter Joy Swaringen and husband, Chris all of Norwood; grandson, Jarrod Swaringen of Norwood; brothers, Bennett Thompson and wife, Tanya of OH, David Thompson and wife, Patsy of Norwood; sisters, Sylvia Arey and husband, Harold of Albemarle, Judy Lee and husband, Rodney of Norwood, Sue Holt and husband, Roy of Oakboro; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that loving referred to her as, “Aunt Jo” and Jagg, her faithful Yorkie.
