Jesse McLendon Obituary

Jesse Alexander McLendon closed the final chapter of his life at Atrium Health Stanly on early Good Friday morning, April 7, 2023 to enter the Kingdom of Eternal peace to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Jesse was born January 21, 1946 in Stanly County to the late James W. McLendon and Hazel Leo Wall McLendon.  He attended lakeview Elementary School in Norwood and graduated from Kingville High School in Albemarle.  After graduation he entered Livingston College in Salisbury on an academic scholarship.  He was an avid reader and lifelong learner.  He enlisted into the United States Military and served a four year tour of duty.  He was discharged in 1976.

Jesse’s employment spans 35 plus years in manufacturing section at Collins & Aikman, Michelin Tire and retiring from N. C. State of Corrections. He also worked for the US Postal Service and was meter reader for the Town of Norwood.

In addition to loving his family and his work, Jesse loved serving in the church.  At Bennettsville AME Zion Church he served as a Sunday school teacher and preacher steward under Rev. Carson.  Jesse’s memory will be cherished and forever remembered by family, his children, grandson, Terry, who lived with Jesse.  Jesse was married to the joy of his life, Evelyn Spinks McLendon who preceded him in death.  

His loving memory shall forever by cherished by the children, Rodney Tillman(Sharon), Marcus Crump, Anissa Spinks, Sonya Mills and Terry Spinks III of the home; grandchildren, Brittany Letterlough, Dominiqes Snuggs(Donald), Carrinton Mills(Shanice), Anthony Smith, Jr., Taylor Spinks, Sanaaya Spinks, Evelyn Pauley, Deaunte Toliver, Taadamika Crump and Marcus Crump, II; sister, Harriet McLendon Coxe (Rev. Robert Coxe) of Charlotte;  27 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, Susan McLendon of New York, Robert (Bobby) Coxe of Charlotte, Keith Duncan(Marcell) of Charlotte, William Ellerbe, Jr. of St. Louis, MO, Charles Ellerbe(Tracy) of Charlotte, Sandi McDonald of Charlotte, Andrella Dunlap, Andrawn McLendon of Albemarle, Angela McLendon of Charlotte and Anthony McLendon of Monroe; cousins, family and friends.

Preceded in death by James U. McLendon( Sara Douglass McLendon), Mary Duncan, Jasper McLendon(Shirley Brooks McLendon), Doris McLendon Ellerbe and a host of nieces, nephews, who preceded Sylvia, McLendon, James U. Mclendon, II and Anita Coxe Barnes.
