Jane Liske

Jane Ballou Liske of Durham, NC passed away on October 2, 2021. She was 88. 

Jane was born October 22, 1932 in Cartaret County to the late Edward and Weltha Willis Ballou, as the third of six children. Her Morehead City upbringing contributed to her love of her family, of the beach, and of all seafood (especially fried shrimp)!

Jane fell in love working at the movie theater and married Robert Burkhead Liske in 1950, enjoying nearly 50 years of blissful marriage and adventure before his death in 1999. They traveled around often for his job, ultimately landing in Raleigh for 30 years before retiring to his home in Mt. Gilead. During this time, her son Bob and daughter Pat were born, and finally daughter Debbie just before moving to Raleigh. Jane had various jobs that she loved, from bank teller to head administrator at CASL Soccer. 

While not working and tending to her children, you could find Jane singing and reading the Bible. Jane's strong spirituality and love of music lead to her singing in the Baptist church choir her entire life and was witnessed again through unwavering support of her daughter Debbie's music. She was an incredibly talented cross stitcher and created beautiful art of her children, including her beloved pets. She supported her family in all their endeavors and had a way of making everyone feel special. 

Jane was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and sister to a family that will forever be touched by the warmth and love in her heart. 
From cutting four acres of grass at her home in Mt Gilead at age 80, to rearranging her heavy furniture at her home in Durham at 88, she was always very determined and independent. 

Jane is survived by her son Robert Bob Liske Jr. (Sheri) of Polkton, NC, her two daughters, Pat Liske Cecil (Ted) of Raleigh and Debbie Liske (Sarah) of Durham. Her sister, Deanna Bartholomew (Fred) lives in Princeton, NC. She is survived by many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Sharon Cemetery in Mt. Gilead, North Carolina.
