James Anthony Watkins, 16, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Albemarle. Rev. Arnette Wall will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:00 PM at the church prior to the service. Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects on Friday May 3, 2024 from 12:00PM to 4:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.
James was born on January 4, 2008 in Stanly County to Jammie Watkins Ford. He was a sophomore at Albemarle High School, where he played basketball. He was a member of Purpose Life Ministries International in Lumberton, NC under the leadership of Pastor Sherman and Shaunette Meekins. James had a contagious smile that lit up the room. He was a bright and happy child and loved to have fun with family and friends. He loved playing, especially basketball. He also enjoyed eating all kinds of different foods. He loved his family, especially his his Mama and sister.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather: James Spencer Watkins.
In addition to his mother, Jammie, he is survived by his sister, Victoria Watkins of the home; his Nana, Rev. Bronnie Lennon of Anson County; Aunt: Crystal Watkins of Albemarle; Uncle Jessie Watkins of Albemarle; special cousins: Morgan McKenzie, Moye’ McKenzie, Trenton Davis, Tyler Watkins, Paris Watkins, and Phoenix Watkins; and many special friends.
