James Dawes Obituary

There is an appointed time for everything, a time for every activity under the heavens. A time for birth, James Curtis Dawes was born November 25, 1946 to his parents,  Cora Artis Dawes and Matthew O. Dawes, Sr.

A time to die, James transitioned to the other side March 3, 2024.

A time to tear down and a time to build up. James Curtis and Julia Hester Little were united in a holy ceremony on January 30, 1985, and to this unity we raised many of our nieces, nephews and adopted and fostered many children. He has healed and wept from the death of his parents, brothers and a daughter, Sophia A. Brooks.

He confessed his sins and joined Cedar Creek Baptist Missionary Church under the leadership of pastor George Lewis, Sr and remained a faithful member until illness.  He was a member of the trustee board.

James found enjoyment in his work and provided for his family.

To enjoy the memories of James is his wife of 39 years, Julia L. Dawes and his children we consider our own, Shelia N. McCaskill, Carrie Nichell(Darrel) Lindsey,  Lucinda Little, Quinesha Little, Phylicia West, Chavis Minor, David L. Little, Jr.(Heather), Divine Dawes, Montez Little, John Davis, Jr. ; grandchildren, Kanya Maske, Jessica Maske, Eligah Montgery, Malaki Garriss, Ka’dence Davis, Nibralyn Turner, Jaylon Smith and Alexic Covington, Malik Ingram, and Tyrone; one great grandson, J’yaire Bennett; four sisters, Minnie Ruth Teka, of Denver, CO, Mary Ray, Doris Faye Prince(James) and Sherry Dawes of Smithfield, NC; two brothers, Samuel N. Dawes(Teresa) of Durham, NC and Charles Dawes of Smithfield, NC; sisters in law, Pauline George, Lizzie Pratt, Carolyn Rorie, Patsy Little, Velvet Little, Tracey Bennett  all of Wadesboro, NC and Terrie Little Faust of Columbus, SC and brother in laws, Larry Little(Tammy), James E. Little, Lonnie A Little, and Lee Thomas Little (Lucille) of Wadesboro, NC, Robert D. Little of Greensboro, NC and Lee Roy Little of Killion, Texas and a host of nieces and nephews and friends who gave him the nickname, Smiley, little man better known as Kurt.

He loves his fur babies, Blue, KaKa, Lot and Molly and the next-door neighbor’s cat.
