Henry Alfred Stogner Sr. 82, of Norwood, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024 at Atrium Health Stanly.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Porter Baptist Church. Rev. Flynn Richardson and Dr. Kinney Wallace will officiate. Henry will lie in state in the church sanctuary 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood the night prior, Wednesday, January 1, 2025 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Henry was born on September 5, 1942 in Stanly County to the late Banuiel Jerome Stogner Sr. and Mattie Honey Stogner. He graduated from Norwood High School in 1960, and went on to open his own barber shop, Henry’s Barber Shop, which he operated for many years. He was a member of Porter Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Henry loved hunting, and spending time outdoors. He was an avid sports enthusiast, and a collector of baseball cards. Henry cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Henry is preceded in death by his siblings: BJ Stogner Jr., Sylvia Deal, and Mary Furr.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marie Barbee Stogner, of the home, their children: HA Stogner Jr. (Amy), Myra Smith (Charlie Brown), Mark Stogner (Traci), and Thomas Furr (Kayla), five grandchildren: Austin Smith (Jada), Donnie Smith (Sabrina), John Marlin Morgan, Peyton Furr, and Ella Furr, three great grandchildren: Everly, Sophie, and Emmett, and three siblings: Harry Stogner (Betty), Janet Caudle, and Rilla Furr (Gene).
