Hallie Mae McSwain Harper, 89, of Norwood passed away Tuesday night, January 4, 2022 at Woodhaven Court in Albemarle.

Due to Covid concerns, a private family service will be held at 2:00PM, Friday, January 7, 2022 at  Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, with interment in the church cemetery.  Rev. Mary Hatley and Rev. Todd McSwain will officiate. Mrs. Harper will lie in state at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood, Thursday afternoon, January 6, 2022 from 1:00 PM until 4:00PM.

Hallie Mae was born July 18, 1932 in Stanly County to the late Lester Vernon and Nola Mabry McSwain.  She was a 1950 graduate of Aquadale High School.  She was an active member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, as long as her health allowed. She worked in textiles, having worked for United Mills, Cassie Cotillion, Stanly Knitting Mill, Austin Knitting Mill, Allison Knitting Mill and East Apparel.

Hallie was the best wife, mama, mother-in-law, and grandma!  She loved her family with all her heart and always looked forward to having them all home and being able to cook for them. Hallie especially loved the week-long summer visits from her four granddaughters.  She was very talented and enjoyed sewing, quilting and baking in her spare time.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Melvin T. Harper, who died November 19, 2021, just prior to their 70th wedding anniversary on December 1.  Hallie was also preceded in death  by a  brother, Roy V. McSwain.

She is survived by her sons, Ricky Harper(Cathy) of Norwood and Tony Harper(Linda) of Statesville; granddaughters, Leanne Carson(Rob), Julie Harper Smith, Cindi Bowman(Gary), and Erica Harper-Redfoot(Jason); great grandchildren, Ben and Ryan Smith, Jac, Chase and  Emma Carson, Lance and Josh Bowman; brother, Kenneth D. McSwain(Shelby) and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to TLC At Home, Woodhaven Court, and Hospice of Stanly and The Uwharrie for the very special and loving care given to Hallie.
