George Lyerly

George Clifford Lyerly, 83, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 8, 2020 at Atrium Stanly in Albemarle.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Albemarle.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed and masks are requested.  A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Brookhill Memorial Gardens in Rockwell. 

George was born November 18, 1936 in Rowan County to the late Lee Luther and Josie Poole Lyerly.  He proudly served his country in the US Air Force.  George was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Albemarle and was a retiree of the City of Albemarle.  He enjoyed wood working and was an avid gardener.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice Thompson Lyerly of  the home; daughter, Robin Lyerly Belk and husband, James of Salisbury; step daughter, Debora Norris and husband, Virrian of Norwood; step-sons, Kenneth Poplin and wife, Shelia of Norwood and Jonah J. Poplin of Albemarle; grandchildren, Timothy, Justin and Tyler Belk, Christopher and Andrew Lyerly, Laura Mabry and husband, Dennis, Leah Norris, Tonya Crisco and husband, Jeff, Stacey Poplin, Josh Poplin and Landyn Poplin; great-grandchildren, Aliye and Jace Mabry, Addie Belk and Zane Yost, Daylan Coleman, Caleb Crisco, Kalista, Haleigh and Daniel Herbert.
