Gail Shields

September 14, 2021 at 1:11 PM, surrounded by her loving husband and children, Yolanda Gail Simpson Shields was welcomed into the presence of God.  

A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 17, 2021 at Norwood Church of the Nazarene.  Rev. Carroll Moffitt will officiate.  Interment will follow in Norview Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM, prior to the service at the church. 

Gail was born October 10, 1950 to the late Junior Andrew and Coleen Blalock Simpson.  She was a 1967 graduate of South Stanly High School.  She was a beautician for over 50 years. She and her sister, Rhonda, operated Norwood Beauty Shop.  Gail was an active member of Norwood Church of the Nazarene where she served as Sunday school teacher, youth leader, church board member, Bible quiz leader, and member of the choir.  

Gail loved supporting her grandchildren at their sporting events, be it baseball, wrestling or soccer, you would find her in the stands cheering them on.  She loved being a “sports Mawmaw”!  

To know Gail, was to love Gail!

She is survived by her husband of 53 years,  Richard Lee “Dick” Shields of the home; son, Richard Lee “Dickie” Shields, Jr. (Tabatha) of Norwood; daughter, Susan Shields Russell (Jeremy) of Norwood; grandsons, Nathan Hathcock, Charles Broadway (Diana), Cody Shields, Tyler, Andrew, Ayden and Alec Russell; great-grandsons, Noah and Jackson Hathcock; sister, Rhonda Simpson Goforth (Pete) of Norwood.  She also has several members of her extended family and friends who she loved like family.

In lieu of flowers, Gail had requested that memorials be made to:  Norwood Church of the Nazarene, P. O. Box 1099, Norwood, NC 28128.
