Edward Alton Covington

Edward Alton Covington, 92, of Mt. Gilead passed away peacefully Tuesday Morning, December 17, 2019 at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 19, 2019 at 11:00 AM, at First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead.  The Rev. Drag Kimrey will officiate; burial will follow at Sharon Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.

Alton was born in Richmond County to the late Judson and Mozelle Warner Covington. Alton worked for the State of NC Transportation Division for 35 years after serving his country in the Navy.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead. Alton was a very humble man and never met a stranger.  He will be remembered for his pleasant smile and willingness to help others. 

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters, Josephine Russell and Ardle Reynolds; and brother, Oswald Covington.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Doris Burroughs Covington; brother, Curtis Covington and wife Velle of Candor; sisters, Virginia Burroughs of Mt. Gilead, Vickie Oyxcton and husband John of Ellerbe; and Shirley Blake and husband Don of Troy. In addition, sister-in-law, Edna King of Asheboro and many nieces and nephews.
