Don Blake

Donald Farabee Blake, 87, of Mount Gilead entered his heavenly home February 10, 2021.

Don was born January 30, 1934 in Montgomery County to the late Sankey and Dell Farabee Blake.  He was a faithful member of Blackwood Chapel Baptist Church where he served in many areas of the church, including grounds keeper, church treasurer and deacon.  He loved the Lord and he loved his church.  

Don was a honest, hard working man.  He was a builder by trade and a carpenter all his life.  He was a family man.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Poole Blake; brothers, Raeford, Aaron, Moses and Joe.  

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Swaringen Blake; sons, Steve (Judy) Blake, Lloyd Blake (Crystal) and Dwight (Sandra) Blake all of Mount Gilead;  daughter, Laura Grimm and husband, Chris of Monroe; grandsons, Jeremy and Clint Blake; granddaughter, Shelby Grimm Parsek and husband, Stuart; great grandson, Owen Blake;  great granddaughter, Abigail Deaton;  brother, Curtis Blake of Albemarle and sister Miriam Phillips of Morehead City; step sons, Ronnie and Darrell Swarington; step granddaughter, Julie Montgomery, step grand son, Greg Haywood(Judy) and step great grandchild, Tyler Mongtomery;  many nieces and nephews. 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Blackwood Chapel Baptist Church.  Rev. Dwight Mabry and Rev. Billy Glover will officiate.  Due to Covid 19, attendees are requested to use social distance guidelines and wear face coverings.  Mr. Blake will lie in state Saturday afternoon, February 13, 2021 from 12:00PM until 5:00PM, at Edwards Funeral Home in Mount Gilead, where family and friends are welcome to pay their respects.   The family will not be present at the funeral home.
