Derreck Huneycutt

Derreck Huneycutt, a bright and vibrant soul, left this world far too soon. Known for his contagious smile and radiant energy, Derreck brought joy and love to everyone lucky enough to know him. He adored his family, cherished his son, and treasured his friends, always making time for the people who mattered most.

John Derreck Huneycutt was born on July 24, 1984 in Stanly County to Tim and Irene Huneycutt. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Calvin Huneycutt; step-daughter: Natalie Taylor; special cousins: Devon Dignan (Mike), Savanna Rankin (Kellen), Jana Lowder (Nathan), and Melissa Mauldin; special aunt: Melanie McEwan; special friend: Amy Shelton; and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A lover of good music and a funky beat, Derreck had a knack for turning even the simplest moments into a celebration. His passion for history and teaching shone through in every classroom, where he shared his knowledge with enthusiasm and heart. Whether he was dropping an impromptu rhyme or sparking curiosity in his students, Derreck’s creativity and passion left a lasting impression.

A celebration of Derreck’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Green Memorial Methodist Church. Daniel Cox, a lifelong friend, will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Edwards Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

To honor Derreck’s bright spirit, we ask that you celebrate his life in color —leave the black at home and instead wear the hues that reflect the light he brought into our lives.

As Derreck would say, “The road goes on forever and the party never ends.” His memory will live on in the laughter, love, and music he shared with us all.
