In accordance to the divine Will or our Heavenly Father, our beloved Mr. Charlie Clay McLendon departed from this earthly life on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Bethany Woods Nursing Home in Albemarle, North Carolina.
He was born on August 10, 1924 in Anson County to the late James (Sal) and Mary Clark McLendon.
His education was received in the Anson County schools and his family church was Pleasant Hill Baptist, Ansonville, NC. He was a retired construction worker. He was always willing to help those in need especially providing transportation for his loved ones. He enjoyed hunting and fishing
Clay will always be remembered as a humble amazing man with a heart of gold. He was full of goodness and grace and his legacy speaks volumes. A legacy of love, strength, loyalty, laughter and fatherhood echoes through the family and local community. His impact as a man, his smile, his being: so many of us experienced it and we could feel his genuine spirit.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Waddell McLendon, parents, James and Mary; sisters, Lula Mae Liles, and Cornelia Richardson; brothers, J. C. McLendon, and Brown Richardson; daughter, Marie E. Watkins; sons, Cleveland Clay McLendon and Charlie Claude McLendon; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: James M. McLendon, Bobby E. McLendon, Pastor Ellis (Cassandra) McLendon, Benjamin F. McLendon, Mamie McLendon, Thelma Clark, Lula Medley (Robert), Rose Davis (Larry) and Michelle McLendon; 35 grandchildren, 101 great grandchildren, 44 great-great grandchildren; 1 daughter-in-law Deneise McLendon, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
