Carolyn Hill

Carolyn Hill, 90, of Oakboro, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, November 27, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her beloved family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at First Baptist Church, Oakboro Sanctuary.  Pastor Don Thompson will officiate and burial will follow in Oakboro Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church Sanctuary. Carolyn was born January 14, 1934 to the late Otha Charles and Retta Ina Harris Curlee.  She was a member of Love Baptist Church in Monroe and First Baptist Church in Oakboro.  

Carolyn (& Dwight) had a farm outside Oakboro, their home always a warm hearted, open, and welcoming place. In their offerings of hospitality they made a beautiful dream team. Loving their neighbors near and far away, Carolyn and Dwight's table had an extra place and plate always including for extended family from far away as China, Korea, Hong Kong, Mexico, Hawaii, and every shore of the US continent. Carolyn and her children and their children’s children truly believe in Christ there is no east and west, in Jesus no north or south. Carolyn’s guiding principles are “God so loved the world” and “Jesus loves the little children of the world.” Practically, Carolyn (side by side with Dwight until his death) practiced giving faithfully of their time, tithes, and talents called to open their home to host international students, serve as choir members and Sunday School Teachers, and lifelong church servant leaders. Especially in  her later years Carolyn served as a hospital volunteer and was disciplined in daily prayer. Carolyn had the gift of hospitality. Love marked Carolyn (+Dwight) on their amazing journeys, and she encouraged us all to love one another.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Dwight Hill Sr. daughter, Karen Elaine Hill; siblings, Mildred Cooper, Gerry Denning and Harold Curlee.  

She is survived by her children, Thomas “Tom” Dwight Hill, Jr. (Betty), Charles L. Hill (Frank Lee) and Jane Haigler(Don); grandchildren, Jason Drake, Jonathan Hill (Liz), Jennifer Lafond (Dan), Julie Simpson(Jeff), Jodi Goodman(Greg) and Marley Dye; great-grandchildren, Kerrie, Marcie, MaKayla, Caleb and Armina; great-great-grandchildren, Joslyn, Zaylonei, Azaria, Daxton and Beckett; her beloved dog, Bella and cat, Tinker Bell.
