Carl Newton

Carl Brent Newton, 87, of Mt. Gilead passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Hamer Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Rupert Medford will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11:00 until 12:45 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead.

Brent was born on June 17, 1939 in Anson County to the late Ernest Bennet and Callie Mae Polk Newton. He retired from the textile industry as a loader.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Wanda N Hoover, his brothers Frank Bennet Newton, and Harold Thomas Newton, and his sister Beulah Newton Biles.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janie Byrd Newton of the home, his son, Carl Emerson Newton, daughter Pamela N. Richie, 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and sister Elouise Newton Burris.
