Buck Powell

John Frank “Buck” Powell Jr. 83 of Polkton died Wednesday Evening, October 2, 2019 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 PM Friday, October 4, 2019 at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. Rev. J. D. Moffett, Rev. Fred Carpenter, Chaplin Shelley Dial will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Buck was born August 23, 1936 in Anson County to the late John Frank and Johnsie Ray Powell. He was a retiree of the North Carolina Department of Corrections and attended Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Rosa Lee Carpenter Powell of the home. Two sons, John F. “Jeff” Powell III (Wendy) of Polkton and Phillip Todd Powell (Ann) of Ansonville. One daughter Stacey Lee Powell of Polkton. Nine grandchildren, Michelle Thomas (Richie), Ashley Smith (Nick), J.R. Powell (Christina), Cali Powell, Holden Powell, Kaitlynn Powell, Tucker Pearson, River Pearson and Carley Powell. Four great-grandchildren. One sister Edna Hill of Ansonville and one brother Jerry Powell of Wadesboro and a sister-in-law Hannah Powell of Wadesboro.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters, Bobby Powell, Faye Lisenby and Shirley Carpenter.
