Boni (Catherine Lavonne) Poplin, 83, died February 13 at Woodhaven Court in Albemarle.
Boni was born on August 17, 1941 in Stanly County to the late C.B. Poplin and Wanema Burris Poplin. She graduated from Aquadale High School in 1959 and then attended Wingate College, UNC Greensboro, and UNC Chapel Hill. She worked at Meyer’s and Thalhimers department stores in Greensboro in their art and marketing departments. Later she worked as a nanny in the Raleigh and Charlotte areas. Finally she found her calling as a pet sitter where she loved and spoiled many cats and dogs.
Boni was a free spirit who was constantly on the move, frequently visiting good friends in places such as Vermont, the Outer Banks, Greensboro, and Lake Norman. She enjoyed a hot cup of black coffee, always had a book close by, and generally believed that animals were better to be around than most people. She was full of knowledge, a little opinionated, and rarely held her tongue.
Survivors include brother, Butch Poplin (Sylvia) of Oakboro; sisters, Sue Almond of Norwood and Neva Poplin of Charlotte; nieces and nephew, Monda Russell, Bo Almond, Wendi Lincoln, and Misty Lambert. Boni was blessed with loyal friends who stayed in touch with her during her declining health. The family would like to thank Donna Doub for her many visits with Boni.
Memorials can be made to Stanly County Humane Society 2049 Badin Rd. Albemarle NC 28001.
