Billy Thomas

Billy Jason Thomas, 87, of Oakboro, passed away Tuesday morning, September 5, 2023 at Atrium Cabarrus.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Oakboro First Baptist Church Fellowship Building.  Rev. Jonathan Waits and Dr. Terrell Watts will officiate.  Interment will follow in Oakboro Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM Friday evening, September 8, 2023 at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.  

Mr. Thomas was born May 4, 1936 in Anson County to the late Clyde Vance and Lizzie Bowers Thomas.  He retired as Production Manager from Pneumafil after 42 years of service.  After retirement he owned his own business, Carolina Business Services, in Manufacturing sales.  

He was a member of Oakboro First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men’s Sunday School class.  

Growing up Billy was an outstanding basketball player known for his famous hook shot.  He was invited to play semi-professional basketball.  He was very active in youth athletics having coached girls  basketball and softball. He took great pride in attending many sporting events to support his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was an avid Carolina fan and vegetable gardener.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Malvin and Craven Thomas and special nephews, Steven Brinson and Lynn Thomas 

He is survived by his wife of 60 ½ years, Catherine Little Thomas; daughters, Shanna Thomas Plyler(Gary) of Oakboro and Jenni Thomas Foxx(Robbie) of Oakboro; grandchildren, Kayleigh Plyler Flora(Jimmy), Kristian Gray Barbee(John) and Kennedy Foxx; one great-grandchild, Kamryn Flora; sister in law, Sherri Little; brother in law Bobby Little(Wanda); special niece Hannah Blalock and her daughter Bladyn.
