Ms. Ann Marie Blake Edwards, 96, of Winston Salem, went to be with the Lord Jesus on Tuesday, March 31. She was born on January 19, 1930, in Pekin North Carolina to Moody and Dewey Edwards Blake.
She was married to CliftonO’Brien Edwards Sr. for 51 years until his death in 2001. She worked as a self-employed bookkeeper for many years in Mount Gilead until she retired and moved to Winston Salem. Once there, she worked as a part time bookkeeper for the law firm of Orbock, Ruark and Dillard until she retired a second time at age 88. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, camping, and southern gospel music. Most of all,she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
Ann was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Mount Gilead, and was active in the church until moving to Winston-Salem. She was ordained as a Deacon there and served as the church secretary for 32 years. She attended New Mt. Vernon Methodist Church for many years after moving to Winston Salem. She was also a member of the KMR club in Mount Gilead and served as the local Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Along with her parents, Ann was predeceased in death by her husband, her daughter Laura Morton, and her special sister (and partner in mischief), Hattie Nix.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Clifton O. Edwards, Jr. (Cathy), daughter Barbara Ruark (Howard), grandchildren Justin Edwards (Wendy), Clayton Edwards, Monica Morton (Brandon); Marshall Morton, Kelly Christie, Blair Small (JT), four great grandchildren, and a special friend, Kelley Grant.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026 at 3:00 PM in Sharon Memorial Cemetery, 2675 Hwy 731, Mount Gilead, North Carolina with Rev. Kevin Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:45 to 2:45 at Edwards Funeral Home 200 W. Allenton St., Mount Gilead.
