Soundra (Harris) McRae

Soundra Harris McRae, 69, of Mt. Gilead, surrounded by her loving family, passed away at her home August 24, 2019.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM, August 27, 2019 at White Crest Baptist Church, 1051 River Road Mt. Gilead, NC.  Rev. Ken McRae and Rev. Danny Laws will officiate. Interment will follow at the McRae Family Farm in Wadeville. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, August 26, 2019, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at White Crest Baptist Church.

Mrs. McRae was born on May 12, 1950 in Stanly County to the late Raymond Brantley and Ruby Gregory Harris. She worked as the Work First Supervisor for Montgomery County DSS. She was a member at White Crest Baptist Church and active in the Montgomery Bible Association, NC Cattleman’s Association, and Piney Point Golf Club.

Soundra was a loving wife, Mama, and MeMe who always put her family and others above herself. She was, above all, a faithful Christian who loved the Lord and served her church. Even during her illness she was a great witness touching many lives along the way, even in her last days. There is no doubt she heard: ‘Well done, thy good and faithful servant.’ She leaves behind a void in many lives that will never be filled.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Adam Harris, brother-in-law Jerry McRae, and sister-in-law Judy Harris.

She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Danny ‘Whitey’ McRae of the home; daughter: Michelle Millen and husband Bruce of Mt. Gilead; and son Ken McRae and wife Christy of Mt. Gilead; five grandchildren: Tyler Yarboro, Abbie Yarboro, Gage McRae, Chaise Millen and wife Lauren, and Brennan Millen; two great-grandchildren: Annabelle and Saylor Millen;  brothers and sisters: Nancy Needham and husband Don of Charleston SC, Theresa Allen and husband Ralph of Norwood, Emily Davis and husband Jimmy of Albemarle, Roger ‘Butch’ Harris of Wilmington, Judy McRae and husband Nook of Mt. Gilead, Terry Harris and wife Patricia of Albemarle, Joy Haywood and husband Don of Mt. Gilead; sister-in-law Natalie Harris of Norwood; and mother and father-in-laws Samuel ‘Shorty’ and Mildred McRae.
