Roy Banks Thompson, 94, of Norwood, passed away on Saturday August 4, 2018 at CHS Stanly.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday August 7, 2018 at Big Lick Baptist Church. Rev. Jeff Springer and Rev. Tab Whitley and Rev. William Lang will officiate and burial will follow at Silver Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Thompson was born in October 27, 1923 in Stanly County to the late Grover Laster and Ann Robert Ingold Thompson. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and a retiree of Wisscassett Mills. He was a member of Big Lick Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Lydia Mauldin Thompson in 1974, son Douglas Merritt York, and brothers and sisters, Jay V. Thompson, Shirley Thompson, Worth Thompson, Dorothy Byrd, and Maxine Byrd.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Jean Hawfield Thompson of the home, Children, Boyce Thompson (Anna J) of Albemarle, Brenda Thompson Ritchie of Albemarle, James Paul Hill (Ann) of Washington, NC; and Claudia Hill Lang (William) of Tampa FL, Daughter-in-law, Rosie York of Richmond, VA. Brother and Sisters, Larry Thompson, Joyce Miller and Emma Hutchinson (Jack) all of Norwood. Twelve Grandchildren, Angie Bjorklund (Wes), Jessica Thomson (Jill), Heather Aram(Jim), Anthony Thompson (Leigh Ann), Mary Leigy (Donald) Beth Price (Richard), Douglas York (Rose), Austin Lang, Eli Lang (Mallorie), Grant Lang, Leland Hill, and Garrison Lang; and Thirteen Great-Grandchildren.
